Tik Tok decides what I eat for 24 hours

Hey everyone, it’s Tiffy here! Today, I decided to let TikTok take the wheel and dictate my meals for an entire day. Inspired by a trend I’ve been spotting all over my feed, there's no set rulebook to this challenge, which means I'm adding my own twist to it. So, let’s dive right into this culinary adventure!

First up, breakfast! As I scrolled through my TikTok feed this morning, I stumbled upon a video by a Mexican dietician who claimed that chilaquiles can indeed be a balanced breakfast. Excitement bubbled up inside me as I realized what I’d be making. Despite my Latina roots, I had never made chilaquiles before and the thought of crafting this dish was thrilling.

Following the video, I began by slicing tortillas into chips and lightly coating them with avocado oil before popping them into the air fryer. Meanwhile, I prepared the chili sauce with less heat by using dried California chilies, which I had soaked overnight. Blending these with garlic and onions, I kept the seeds to the side, unsure if they were supposed to join the fiery mix.

After preparing the sauce and frying the eggs, it was time to assemble. Layering the chips, pouring over the eggs, and finally drizzling my homemade chili sauce, I was ready to add cheese—substituting what I had in place of the traditional choices. The result? Not quite restaurant-style, but delicious nonetheless! This breakfast was an exciting start to my TikTok food day.

Lunch was where things got serious. My toddler's morning request of "PB and J" was perfectly timed with a TikTok video on making the most extravagant peanut butter and jelly sandwich from scratch. Starting with bread dough, which was a first for me, I embarked on a journey that included making my own jam and peanut butter. The process took longer than expected, stretching across the day, but the results were spectacular.

Sampling my homemade bread fresh out of the oven was a moment of pure bliss. Combining it with the fresh strawberry jam and creamy peanut butter I had prepared, I finally understood the luxury of a completely homemade PB&J. It was a reminder of childhood, but with a gourmet twist.

Dinner pushed me further out of my comfort zone. TikTok threw at me a salmon and cream cheese bagel, a dish I had never made nor had much experience with. The challenge began with slicing the salmon, which was nerve-wracking, to say the least. After preparing the other ingredients and toasting the bagels, I assembled the bagels with a mixture of anticipation and fear.

The result was surprisingly good, though I could have done with less salt, given the natural saltiness of the salmon. It wasn’t the best bagel I’ve ever had, but it was certainly the fanciest thing I’ve crafted in my kitchen.

Reflecting on the day, letting TikTok influence my meal choices introduced me to new recipes and pushed me out of my culinary comfort zone. It’s a fun and adventurous way to shake up your cooking routine, and I’ve found a few recipes that I'll definitely be adding to my book.
